Our Demos

Fully Permitted Testing Facilities for Climate-Resilience Technologies

MCG provides the physical and administrative ground for testing climate-resilience technologies, allowing EU consortia to move beyond theory and into real implementation in Greece.

Mykonos demosites

Mykonos Demonstration Sites

The smart response to tourism pressure, water scarcity and arid island conditions in the Cyclades.

Site Ano Mera – Abelokipos

Smart Rainwater Harvesting & Precision Agriculture
This agricultural demo creates water resources in off-grid fields through a shallow sub-surface collector, 60 m³ storage, solar-powered autonomy and precision irrigation across 9 monitored irrigation zones.

Site Ano Mera – Kardamida

Circular Water Management & Aquifer Enrichment
A residential-scale system combining rooftop harvesting, storage tanks, recovery wells and bioswale drainage to convert winter flooding into strategic summer irrigation reserves.

1. Smart Rainwater Harvesting & Precision Agriculture

This demo site creates water resources in off-grid agricultural areas by mimicking nature with minimal landscape intervention. In the absence of rooftops, it uses an innovative shallow sub-surface collector that gravity-feeds rainwater into two flexible storage tanks with a total capacity of 60 m³. To blend with the Cycladic landscape, the tanks are discreetly encased in dry-stone walls and reeds. The system is 100% energy-autonomous through solar power and supports circular economy principles through advanced precision irrigation.

2. Circular Water Management & Aquifer Enrichment

This demo site transforms winter flooding into a strategic summer water reserve by using the subsurface as a natural reservoir. The infrastructure combines rooftop rainwater harvesting, surface storage tanks and recovery wells, while a dedicated bioswale drains the soil, filters runoff and directs it toward storage. During the dry season, the banked water is recovered and pumped for irrigation, effectively closing the local water cycle.

Attica testing facility

B. Attica Testing Facility (Mandra, Agios Georgios)

Core innovation site for Green Growth, Smart Agroforestry and Carbon-Farming

Strategic Agroforestry Plantations

Climate-resilient trees and crops designed to improve soil health, prevent erosion and maximize carbon sequestration for high-quality carbon credits.

Advanced IoT & Precision Monitoring

Meteorological station and a network of 9 advanced sensors continuously tracking soil moisture and environmental metrics.

Large-Scale Nature-Based Solutions

To sustain the plantations without depleting local groundwater, MCG is constructing a 720 m² sub-surface rainwater collector that scales up the proven Mykonos model. This gravity-fed NBS infrastructure channels harvested rainwater into high-capacity storage tanks with a total volume of 200 m³.

Geophysical & Hydrological Integration

The site is fully equipped for advanced subsurface mapping using integrated geophysical techniques, allowing accurate analysis of the underlying water resources that support carbon-farming crops and long-term ecosystem resilience.

Self-Sustained Ecosystem

The synergy between strategic plantations, large-scale NBS water harvesting and smart monitoring makes the Mandra facility a completely autonomous proving ground for carbon-farming practices under Mediterranean conditions.
